Clear the path. Pick up hoses, garden decor, kids' toys, and anything else lying near the driveway. Hidden objects can break equipment and get thrown by a snowblower.
Mark other hazards too. Curbs, landscape rocks, low walls, and drain grates all disappear under snow. A stake or reflector on each one saves headaches.
Plan where the snow goes. Pick a spot to pile snow that won't bury your shrubs, block your mailbox, or melt back across the driveway and refreeze. Keep piles off small trees and plants that can snap under the weight.
Check your gear. Start the snowblower before you need it, top off the fuel, and grab a bag of ice melt that's safe for concrete and pets.
A little setup now means fewer surprises on that first snowy morning.
